Junior State Finals held in Wollongong on the 27th and 28th of April 2019

It has been a long preparation for coaches, managers, players, referee’s and parents for Junior State Cup. With trials held back in October last year, followed by multiple training sessions during the week and on weekends, we headed south to Wagga Wagga for the Southern Conference, then progressed through to the State Finals for 6 of our teams which was held here in Wollongong over the weekend. We could not be prouder on the performance of all our Devils both on and off the field and their dedication to their team over this period.

We were represented by all of our Boys teams (Under 10’s through to Under 18’s) as well as the 16’s Girls. These teams fought hard over the weekend where they faced the top teams from the Northern Conference as well as the Southern Conference which was proved to be a competitive task. All teams had pool games on Saturday, followed by games on Sunday morning before the final series started. Unfortunately our 12’s Boys and 18’s Boys were the only teams to progress through to the finals series. Under 12’s Boys faced Manly who are such a strong club, they were defeated 3 tries to 2 and Manly went on to win the Junior State Final. The 18’s Boys faced a strong Central Coast side and defeated them 8 tries to 2. This Central Coast side went on to make the Grand Final, so a huge credit to the  two boys teams for making the Quarter Final.

Across the weekend we had a number of volunteers help out on the BBQ, in the canteen, setting up and packing up the fields. It has been a long time since Wollongong has hosted an event like this and we cannot thank these volunteers enough for their time and efforts over the weekend. Without you, this would not have been possible. We look forward to hosting this event for the next two years where we will look to improve both on and off the field in all areas.

Also a huge thank you to coaches, managers, referee’s, officials and parents. The way you have organised your teams and children has been outstanding and we are so lucky to have  you as a part of our club. Looking forward to the JSC preparation for 2020. Go the Devils
