Week 3 of the 2018 Wollongong Touch Association Season 2 coincides with the launch of the Inaugural Illawarra Division Premier Touch League. This landmark partnership will see the link between the NRL and Touch Football Australia filter down to a grassroots level, with both organisations setting the platform for growth and development in the future.

Wollongong Touch Association is proud to announce the launch of the inaugural Premier Touch League, in partnership with the Illawarra Division Rugby League.

This first of its kind competition combines two iconic Illawarra sporting organisations, in a landmark partnership underpinned by the key strategic objectives of the NRL Touch Football alliance.

Established in 1980, Wollongong Touch Association has become one of the most successful grassroots sporting establishments on the South Coast, offering regular social competitions for local businesses, teams and families, and hosting large-scale events.

WTA has developed a distinct representative identity, producing and developing world-class players and referees, including St George Illawarra Dragons NRL Squad members Jai Field and Tristan Sailor, along with Dragons Coach and former Australian Kangaroo Paul McGregor.

Members of the Illawarra Division Rugby league have long participated in WTA competitions, and this new partnership marks the start of the first official alliance between the two entities and lays the platform for the continued growth and expansion of both organisations.

Five clubs will be involved with the first season, with Helensburgh Tigers, Thirroul Butchers, Corrimal Cougars, Berkeley Eagles and Dapto Canaries to be represented in the top-tier men’s competition. WTA IS proud to partner with Acorn Lawyers, Stop Slow Traffic Control, North Gong Hotel and Multi Civil and Rail as team sponsors for this competition. The Illawarra Division Premier Touch League will run in conjunction with WTA’s Season 2 Competition, attracting the region’s elite touch players.

It comes on the back of the successful NRL Touch Premiership, as seen on FOX League throughout 2018.
