I98FM Premier League Round 1 Wrap
Jamberoo Superoos have showed their cards early in both the Men’s and Women’s I98fm Wollongong Touch Premier League.
Round one of the 2023 competition tapped off at Thomas Dalton Park, and it was the competition favourites who bounced out of the blocks. Jamberoo’s Men’s team taking down an understrength Dapto side who were missing some key players to start the season, but it didn’t take away from a strong 7-1 showing by the Roos, led by the experienced heads of Terry Deegan and Matt Tope.
The Superoos also hopped to it in the Women’s draw with a 5-1 win over the Corrimal Cougars. The score line didn’t reflect the tightness of the game which became an end to end battle. Wollongong Devils Women’s Open players Loz Robinson and Ally Mawson providing the attacking punch at key moments for the younger Roos team. While Corrimal showed some positive signs in their first hit out of the season.
Gerringong beat Woonona 6-3, while defending champions Stingrays of Shellharbour started the season with a 6-4 result over Dapto.
Albion Park Eagles began their Men’s title defence in style with a late 7-6 win over Wests Illawarra and Thirroul were too good for Corrimal 7-4. Shoalhaven will officially begin its season with a double header next week against Corrimal and Stingrays.
