Wollongong Touch Association is proud to announce it has been allocated funds from the BlueScopeWIN Community Partners Program, to support its inaugural Junior Referee Squad!

New and returning referees will form the squad, to officiate during WTA’s Term 4 Junior Competition. All new and returning referees are invited to join this exciting new team of referees!

“This new program is aimed at attracting junior referees to the Devils family, and giving them a level of support and direction as emerging officials,” WTA Technical Director Jared Constable said.

“Some of the best Touch referees in Australia call Wollongong Touch Association ‘home’, so to introduce our youngest referees to the game under the watchful eye of these elite, experienced mentors is a great opportunity.”

This money has already allowed WTA to invest in new uniforms and equipment. It will enable the club to attract new officials to benefit from top-class coaching and mentoring for young referees throughout the Term 4 Junior Competition.

“More than just giving our young referees a whistle and a shirt, sending them out to the fields, and paying them at the end of the season, they will receive weekly coaching and support from the club’s leading referees. This will give them the tools to go on and progress into the senior competition on Mondays and Tuesdays, and even represent the club at State and National level one day, if they wish,” Constable said.

Anyone interested in joining the Junior Referees Squad, or taking part in a Level 1 Referees course should pop into the clubhouse on either Monday, Tuesday or Wednesday afternoons at touch.

“Without referees, our sport would not exist, so we are enormously thankful to the BlueScopeWIN Community Partners team for allocating us these funds.”
